Teacher’s spirit

Here is a paiting that is said to sparkle the new President-elect Barack Obama.

This is not hard to understand or read the painting. The lady is sitting on the earth and holds a broken frame. The painting is named as “Hope”.I can see although the frame is broken and the earth is suffering a lot from disaster or wars, the hope for something good never changes or gets shaken.

This reminds me of what Plato says about the Good. The good has a cost, and to get the good,we have to spend efforts. Now as teacher, even we are living under different guidelines or ministry requirement,we should try our best to maximize the learning effectiveness and never forget the ultimate purpose of education.

The environment might not be good such as mandatory requirement in contents. To meet the requirement, the ways of teaching are limited.Teacher and students relationship has never been deemed as equal.Using some refreshed ways will be considered as useless and no value-added.At an age when everything is judged on some sort of scores, how to keep teacher’s spirit remains a high priority for e very teacher that is about to enter this “industry”.200811211025557616e1

This is a funny topic, but it only sounds like.

The movie”The School of Rock” is really a movie about teaching at school. Now it seems like teacher can also guide student’s interest to where the teacher wants. But that is not the point. The point or the underlying asusmption is the students like music and students want to do something about it.Maybe the old concept of school project leads them to think like this, but they finally did it.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with John Dewey’s practical education versus traditional education. The fact these kids eventually offered a great show as the band of “School of Rock” seemed to suggest they were still pets of their teacher. But at least, they chose this way.

So students can still do whatever teacher wants them to,but at least they are doing this at their own willingness. This could be the difference between students and the pets……

We were learning when singing and we were singing while we were learning!

it could be a funny way of teaching math. But how practical it could be?

Is it funny that the teacher actually says she tries to push her students to best, the best of the best? But what is “the best of the best”?Does she try to use every possible means to make students do a lot of homework?Answer a lot of questions?Attention here.

Foul play not suspected after teen’s body found in Ontario

Last Updated: Wednesday, November 5, 2008 | 2:20 PM ET

A body found northeast of Barrie, Ont., on Wednesday is believed to be that of 15-year-old Brandon Crisp, who disappeared from his home last month after a dispute with his parents over a video game.

Police are not yet confirming the body is Crisp’s, but it was found in the Shanty Bay area where searches have been taking place since Oct. 20.

“At this point, we believe it to be Brandon, and we’re still obviously in the early stages of our investigation,” Goodbrand said. “It’s not confirmed, because nothing’s confirmed until we have pathology, but we believe it to be Brandon.”

Goodbrand said an autopsy will be conducted, but he did not speculate on what might have caused the death.

Ontario Provincial Police Const. George Silvestri said the discovery of the body does not present a safety concern for the community.

“Our indication is, at this time, no foul play [is] suspected, but of course, we have to examine every possibility,” Silvestri said.

Clothing, knapsack matches, parents told

(Nathan Denette/Canadian Press)When contacted by the CBC after the police announcement, the teen’s parents, Steve and Angelika Crisp, declined to appear in an interview, but said they had been told by authorities the body had the same clothes and the same knapsack as their son was wearing on the day he disappeared, the CBC’s Kas Roussy reported.

Crisp’s parents had sought out all kinds of help in their desperate search, including psychics. On Wednesday morning before the discovery, they contacted the CBC’s The Fifth Estate, saying they were going to investigate yet another tip: an abandoned house which turned out to be very close to where the body was found.

The Barrie police will be co-ordinating the pathology investigation with the OPP, Goodbrand said.

The teen disappeared on Oct. 13 after arguing with his parents over a favourite Xbox video game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. They had taken the game away from him because they felt he had become obsessed with it and his many connections in the online gaming community.

The parents urged the police to do more to access records on their son’s Xbox and online gaming accounts to try to find the teen.

Officers had been searching cornfields and the bush in the Shanty Bay-area around Barrie where Crisp was last reported seen walking on the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail with his bicycle.

Crisp was sighted twice on the day he disappeared. His bicycle was found on Oct. 20.

Who has the responsibility?

The most recent death case of Brandon Crisp is shocking to a lot of Toronto residents. Now it seems like his parents are so innocent. But don’t forget about the cause of the boy running away from home–the parents blaming the boy for being addicted to the network game(I guess it must be Call On Duty).

Parents were saying they were not blaming the game, but the company who sponsored the game tournament. It is a little bit awkward, but I have to say the parents should be blamed for this.

This is another (bad)example of how Internet can ruin instead of help students especially young kids in education. To have certain level of control is necessary for both at school and after-school.Teacher,when applying new technology, must think of the side effect the new technology can bring and parents, should take more responsibility in detecting and educating their kids in the right way.Simply blaming and forbidding their kids in participating in the game is apparently not an effective way.

What I like about teaching?

Teaching is a charming major among all academic subjects. Some universities list teaching as professional major as business or law. I view teaching a broad subject across sociology, psychology and science, etc. But teaching is more than that, and it is also a science of communication, which will benefit massive population.

First thing I like about teaching is teaching passes knowledge onto others. Knowledge is the wealth of our human-beings. Greatest scientists uncovered natural laws and without teaching, this won’t go through beyond generations. Someone may argue learning can still happen without teaching. However, I believe, teaching consists of at least the majority of the information transmission between generations.

Second thing I like is teaching involves psychological activities, which is one of my strength. Since my childhood, I have formed a mind practice that is always associated with linking people’s behavior to their thoughts. Teaching needs this practice. A good teacher has to know how the human development process should work to accept, digest and absorb the information smoothly. He/she must tell from student’s behavior how the student follows his/her teaching while the student becomes impatient because of either the dry materials or the way of teaching. I like this practice and I am confident in applying in teaching.

Third thing I like about teaching is teaching benefits a massive body of learners. Unlike law or business, which benefits the major participant in the process, teaching can affect several generations of people. An often noticed phenomenon is a dad and his son and his grandson can have the same teacher. Moreover, not only the teacher and students in class, but also students’ parents, friends, colleagues when they grow up are all the beneficiaries of teaching activities. I feel passionate when I say this. In Chinese history, Confusion is probably the most important philosophy. But people also know him as a great educator. His thoughts became the foundation of ancient Chinese education system and even today, it still worked implicitly in our daily life. Obviously, he as great teacher, influenced at least 20 centuries.

These three points, in general, make teaching a charming profession with humanity. The image for teacher has been long established as commander of a class in oriental cultures, and most students are afraid of teachers if they don’t do well. But I think, if a teacher always keeps in mind these three points I mentioned above, he/she will find teaching to be full of fun and rewarded by students’ friendship and trust, which I guess is the fourth thing I like about teaching.

Not too fancy a world full of imagination.

Pedagogy roots here and grows here!
